Landscaping of country house territory
Landscaping is, perhaps, the most creative stage of a complex of landscape works to improve the territory of a country house or summer cottage.
It can be compared to coloring a pencil sketch of the project, where you act as artists in person, together with the designers of our company. That's where you let your imagination play out.
But with the obvious ease of this process, the task of planting greenery is not easy, if not more, and will require some knowledge and experience.
It would seem easy to determine where and what of the green spaces will be located on your site. But imagine that in addition to understanding the aesthetic beauty of planted plants, you will need knowledge about their growth and development, interspecific combination, planting and care.
In addition, it is necessary to take into account the annual climate change, the illumination of the site and the priority direction of winds, terrain and groundwater features, the composition and fertility of the soil, existing structures with communications and plants, and of course, the general and private wishes of the people living here.
Properly planned planting of plants will protect against bad weather and strong winds, prevent slippage and crumbling of the soil in complex terrain or the presence of natural water bodies.
That is why it is best to entrust landscaping to Landscape studio A2.
Creating a landscaping project, the designer is based on the features of your chosen style of landscape design, which has its own characteristic combination of species of ornamental plants.
Then the territory of the dacha area is divided into three conditionally defined zones:
- External.
Perimeter of the garden plot, which can be fenced and edged, for example, a hedge of trees or ornamental shrubs. - Internal.
Neighbouring directly to your country house, it is best decorated with picturesque flowerbeds. - Intermediate.
Accordingly, the middle part, in most cases, we offer the creation of a seed or roll up lawn, combined with a pergola, alpinary or rockery.
Based on our own experience, site features and client's wishes, our project department simulates a general landscape design project including an arboretum with a planting plan and an assortment list of planted plants, as well as detailed explications of individual flower beds.
The dendroplane clearly defines the type, variety and location of each individual plant in relation to the boundaries of functional areas and buildings.
But before the beginning of landscaping it is likely to be necessary to carry out a general set of works on improvement: engineering training on relief formation, laying of pipes and communications, arrangement of drainage system and automatic watering, construction works, paving of paths and sites, as well as ground planning.

Planting and pruning trees and shrubs
Trees, especially large trees, only attract and emphasize their own personality, but can also act as supporting elements of landscape design, which can, for example, beautifully framed with beautiful flowering shrubs and create original design compositions in the overall design of the garden.
The combination of deciduous, coniferous, fruit trees and ornamental shrubs will add to your rest not only calm and contemplative beauty, but also incomparable pleasure from the proper grown tasty, healthy, and most importantly, environmentally friendly fruits and berries.
For this purpose, we carefully grow and prepare for future replanting on your site the most popular species of trees and shrubs in our own nursery in Moscow.
Besides, we have excellent business relations with the best nurseries in Europe. Each individual of wood or shrub is selected by experienced dendrologists with care for your order, taking into account the peculiarities of the Russian climate and local conditions, and then quickly and carefully delivered with a minimum of overloads.
For favorable growth and health, trees and shrubs are planted only in well-federated and nutrient-filled pits with a drainage base, with further regular and careful care.
Figure haircut will give the planted trees and shrubs even more elegance.
Instead of monotonously boring fences, we recommend the use of live green walls.
Living hedges look great and capable at the same time:
- to keep out strangers and curious neighbors' eyes;
- divide the area into functional zones;
- to protect against strong wind and noise, street dust and dirt;
- to disguise unpresentable buildings or objects;
- to fill the courtyard with freshness and fragrances of greenery;
- to improve the internal microclimate;
- to create natural coolness and shade;
- to decorate and refine the design of the estate.
Live hedges can be created at any height, from low curbs to high green walls made of ornamental bushes or deciduous conifers planted in one or more rows with loosely growing or cut edges.
Gardeners of our studio specialize in planting and decorative trimming of hedges of any kind, providing a complex of these services creatively and perfectly.
Creating and caring for flower beds
It's hard to imagine a well-groomed garden without flowers. As if the bright colors in the painting, flowers decorate and complement a single canvas, saturating the air with pleasant floral aromas and bring true aesthetic pleasure to people who rest here.
The area of application, shape and appearance of flower beds is limited only by the width of the flight of fancy. Flower beds can be made of single and perennial plants anywhere, decorating the area adjacent to the house or gazebo, garden paths or a favorite holiday spot on the lake shore.
The main thing is to try to correspond to the general style decision and to choose plants taking into account a uniform composition, their life expectancy and flowering time. Annuals, as a rule, flower brightly and for a long time, sometimes during the whole season, but perennials' care is easier.
In urban parks and outdoor areas, regular flowerbeds with strict geometric shapes and symmetrical plantings are usually broken down. Here, the same view from all sides and simultaneous flowering are important.
If a flower arrangement is located on several levels, it is called an elevated flowerbed.
The flower garden near the house is the most beloved one, naturally we want it to delight you from early spring to late autumn. Here, you will have to work hard to create a continuous flower bed with approximately the same climate and care requirements as a combination of annual and perennial plants with alternating flowering.
Mixborder is one of the variants of such flowerbed of irregular geometric shape with smooth corners and the most diverse combination of species of annual and perennial flowers, bushes, dwarf trees. In the mixer, the foreground is often represented by tall and large specimens, while the front is low and compact.
Rosary - one of the types of compositional flower garden, in which the prevailing role is played by the beautiful rose. The creation and care of the rose garden is a complex and painstaking process, because the rose is a very delicate and demanding flower, but all the work pays off hundredfold and gratitude of the women you love.
Vertical flowerbeds is a modern technology of vertical gardening, based on the art of decorating the frame in the form of a certain figure with pots with plants and flowers.
Creating and maintaining flower beds and flowerbeds is a complex, painstaking and multi-disciplinary process for patient enthusiastic artists, in which we have an excellent understanding and recommend ourselves as a proven specialist.
Vertical gardening
An experienced landscape designer tries to take into account the features of the site and use any modern technology, available items, horizontal and vertical surfaces.
For example, vertical gardening can be easily applied:
- decorate or disguise the facades of a house or other buildings;
- provide additional protection from the sun, heat, wind, street noise and dust;
- to create decorative walls for individual functional areas;
- to save site space and give it extra volume;
- to make your garden multilevel and put new, original forms into it;
- to shade small architectural forms and garden sculptures with a beautiful background.
For vertical gardening, mainly perennial, curly plants with dense leaves are used. They are decorated with the walls of buildings and pergolas, grids and awnings, various retaining walls or garden arches.
Landscaping the roof of the house
There are two ways of greening roofs: intensive and extensive.
With extensive landscaping, small plants are planted on a fairly thin layer of fertile soil, and further develop without much human intervention, as in natural nature.
Intensive roof landscaping is almost no different from conventional garden landscaping, where almost all landscape design techniques are acceptable and therefore more expensive. The thickness of the earth layer for the roof garden is up to 1 meter.
Roof gardening:
- creates a great vacation spot with a good view;
- provides additional usable area;
- reduces house heat in summer, heat loss in winter;
- increases the service life of the roof itself;
- enriches the air with oxygen;
- reduces pollution and noise;
- adds to the prestige and value of the house.
Roof landscaping is a multifaceted and challenging process for the average amateur gardener. Trust him to us and save yourself the trouble and waste of time.
The creation of rock gardens and rockeries
Skilfully combining the natural design of stones with the beauty of soil low-growth plants, you can try to recreate an artificial relief alpine garden (alpinary), sometimes even with a spring or a small waterfall.
Such sublimity not only looks very picturesque and refined, but also refreshes the microclimate. It has the same voluminous multileveled landscape, and a certain charm of pristine.
An ornamental flower bed with a composition of stones is also possible on the plain. At arrangement of such flower bed (rockery) it is not required a large quantity of stones as its internal space is filled with fine pebbles or coloured gravel, creating a peculiar mosaic background and shading large boulders and plants.
Sometimes a rockery harmoniously frames a small pond, fountain, waterfall or garden sculpture.
However, the creation of such stone gardens, the integration of the reservoir, the selection of stones, planting and maintenance of plants growing on it - a rather troublesome thing and can only be done by experienced craftsmen and professional gardeners.
Sowing or stowing the lawn
The main work on landscaping of the country estate will complement and complete the creation of a good and wonderful lawn, which performs both decorative and practical tasks:
- enhances the look and feel of the house;
- creates a pleasant background for flowerbeds, paths and buildings;
- prevents soil erosion and slipping;
- to preserve the environment and a healthy microclimate;
- enriches the environment with oxygen;
- keeps the weeds from growing;
- absorbs noise, calms the nerves;
- protects against bruises and injuries.
There are two main ways to create a lawn: in rolls or in sowing.
Rolled lawn is a cut fertile soil layer with plants twisted into rolls. Such a lawn is laid like a carpet on an improved area and does not require special preparation of the surface of the area and a long time to its arrangement.
Sowing a lawn is much harder and longer, as it requires a whole range of work from levelling and fertilising the soil to sowing the seeds and then growing them with proper care, but it is more durable.
Lawns can be decorative, sports and special purposes.
Decorative lawn always looks dignified and magnificent. The combination of different and complementary grasses determines the style of an ornamental lawn: parterre or English, ordinary, meadow, Moorish or soil-covered lawn.
Sports lawn is not as refined as a decorative one, but it can easily withstand moderate (active rest) and intensive (sports games) loads due to the dense and elastic turf and the presence in the grass mixture of grasses, especially when mowing and watering regularly.
Special purpose lawns are planted where special beauty is not required: in city parks, in the territories of large enterprises, airfields and parking lots, near roads and railways, on the slopes of ravines to protect against shattering, etc. The main requirement for such an industrial lawn is that it is resistant to damage, has a strong root system and does not require regular maintenance.
The device of lawn, special sowing type, is best entrusted to dedicated specialists of our studio, who have agricultural knowledge and experience. It will help to avoid mistakes and will pay off hundredfold with magnificent appearance and longevity of healthy plants on a green glade near the house.
